Psychotherapist

Given my professional writing and journalism career background, my work as a therapist is informed by the concept of narratives. The stories we tell ourselves about the world and our experiences and attributes are powerful. I aim to assist clients in identifying existing narratives, their problem points, and possible solutions. Additionally, I have experience integrating evidence-based modalities like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness exercises to aid clients in re-authoring their stories into healing and empowering narratives.

The relationships I build with my clients are driven by curiosity, empathy, humor, and authenticity. I view myself as a collaborator, not a director, and my role as a therapist is to assist clients in developing improved functioning and a stronger sense of autonomy and self-esteem through accountability, unconditional positive regard, mindfulness training, and thoughtful self-exploration. Further, in approaching therapeutic interventions, I firmly believe that clients are well-informed and have a voice in the treatment process––as such, I only utilize treatment methods that feel appropriate to my clients.

My areas of expertise include eating disorders, body image, depression and anxiety, self-esteem, and issues relating to masculinity. Additionally, I have experience working with clients struggling with trauma symptoms, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), oppressed identities, and relationship and communication issues. Furthermore, it is my conviction that trauma-informed, anti-racist, and identity-affirming care are intrinsic aspects of ethical and successful therapy.

Before working as a part-time psychotherapist at Andersonville Mindfulness and Psychology, I completed my clinical internship at Skylight Counseling Center in Evanston, IL, providing low-cost services to a diverse clientele. Additionally, I was an Eating Disorder Technician at Center for Discovery. I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northeastern Illinois University and my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
