I view therapy as the ongoing navigation of life’s natural tensions: when to accept and when to change, when to rest and when to push forward, when to solve and when to let go, when to feel and when to act. If you’re seeking therapy, you may have reached a point where these tensions feel overwhelming or leave you feeling stuck. My goal is to honor the complexity and difficulty of this position by meeting it with unrelenting curiosity. I strive to understand the full context of your experiences and to collaborate with you to help you regain a sense of contentment, acceptance, and agency. I believe this is achieved through self-compassion, mindfulness, a trusting therapeutic relationship, and an honest engagement with life as it actually is.
My therapeutic approach is primarily informed by third-wave behavioral therapies as well as existential-humanism. In practice, this means our work will focus on what we do in the present—not by ignoring the past, but by exploring how earlier experiences, relationships, beliefs, and patterns continue to shape how you may relate to yourself, others, and the world around you in the here-and-now. Additionally, therapy can become a space to safely experiment with new ways of thinking, feeling, and relating, allowing meaningful change to emerge over time through incremental practice.
As a second-career therapist, I have a deepened interest in the ways people reimagine, reclaim, and evolve their identities over time. I am a champion of authenticity, and find great joy in the process of making meaning. I also more generally have clinical interests in working with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, the effects of adverse childhood experiences, life transitions, relationship challenges, and other mood disorders.
I bring a variety of experiences into the therapy room. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science and am currently completing my master’s degree in Clinical Counseling. Prior to returning to school, I spent nine years in software engineering and engineering management. This experience gives me an appreciation for the pressures of demanding careers, perfectionism, burnout, and leadership. When not working, I am big into board games, all manner of outdoor activities, mindfulness meditation and yoga, and the arts. If we have the opportunity to shoot the breeze, let’s chat about our favorite musicals.
