Modern life moves fast, and it’s far too easy to lose ourselves in the rush, in staying productive, efficient, busy. The pressure of time scarcity leaves us so focused on the next moment that we can lose touch entirely with the current one – which is, of course, the only time we ever actually have.

This 8-week experiential group, facilitated by AMP therapists Mallory Murphy, LSW and Miranda Twiss, MA, invite you to pause the “doing” and reconnect with the “being.”

Using Jon Kabat-Zinn’s seminal work Wherever You Go, There You Are as a guide, we explore how to meet our lives with more presence, less judgment, and a deeper sense of peace.

This is not a lecture-based course, but rather a shared practice of mindful presence, designed to be a mid-week reset for your nervous system. Whether you are looking to manage chronic stress, navigate difficult emotions, or simply find more richness in your everyday experiences, this group will provide you with the tools and community support to stop passing the time and start being here now.

 

What You’ll Learn:

 

Who This Group is For:

Adults (18+) who reside in Illinois. No previous experience with meditation or mindfulness is necessary.  This group is an 8-week commitment, and drop-ins will not be permitted.

 

Fees and Registration:

The self-pay rate for this group is $40/session. Participants who are not currently clients of AMP will be required to complete a diagnostic evaluation (intake) session prior to group enrollment, and the maximum out-of-pocket cost for the intake session will be $40.00. A number of reduced fee spots are available for this group.

This group may be billable to BCBS PPO plans, Aetna PPO and Aetna POS II plans, and most Cigna PPO plans. With in-network insurance coverage, the cost for each visit is estimated to be $20 – 40/session depending on your insurance coverage. By registering, you are committing to attending all sessions in the 8-week series.

Each participant will be permitted to borrow (1) copy of Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life by Jon Kabat-Zinn. The book must be returned at the end of group, or a $20 book fee will be charged to your credit card on file.

Space Considerations and Accommodations:

Our DBT group is held in our group room at 5600 N. Ridge Avenue, #105, Chicago, IL 60660

We are committed to making our space welcoming and accessible. Our office is located on the first floor with no steps to navigate. If you use a mobility device, please let us know in advance, and a team member will be happy to assist you with a smooth entry. We also have two ADA-compliant, all-gender restrooms.

For public transit, we are a short walk from the CTA Red Line’s Bryn Mawr station and CTA’s Broadway and Peterson bus lines. Metered street parking is available on Broadway and Bryn Mawr Avenues.

The group room is furnished with armless, cushioned chairs designed to comfortably accommodate a wide range of body types. The room’s layout can be adjusted to ensure everyone feels comfortable and has enough space. Masks are available in the lobby for those who wish to wear them, but they are not required for clients or staff at this time.

As an LGBTQ+ affirming practice, we warmly welcome members of the queer community to all of our group therapy offerings.
